More Model Sheets from Darkwing Duck Series (1991)

Gosalyn was the spunky 9-year-old tomboy adopted by Drake Mallard (a.k.a. Darkwing Duck). She was voiced by the talented Christine Cavanaugh who brought a lot of charm and energy to the character.

Launchpad was a carry over from the legendary Ducktales Series and was designed by Skip Morgan. I merely adapted Skip's design to fit into the Darkwing world and added some extra poses and expressions. Sort of a style adjustment, I guess.

  2. Oh my God. With my brother we used to watch those cartoons when we were kids. "Picsou et le trésor de la lampe perdue". It was fantastic.

Those sheets are great indeed ! What a range of expressions !

  4. Neat stuff, by any chance, did Skip Morgan design any of the other characters from DuckTales, or from other Disney TV shows of the '80s, like Gummi Bears?

Toby, if you have any more Darkwing Duck model sheets, keep 'em coming. I'd also like to see Chip 'N' Dale Rescue Rangers model sheets if you have any. Same with any other Disney TV show you did character designs for.

BTW, how accurate is your IMDb profile: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0791401/
Are there any credits that you can identify as being wrong, or any notable credits that are missing?

I'm a HUGE Talespin fan. Would you happen to have any model sheets from that show, too?

  6. Lead character design for Talespin was done by Len Smith. My contribution to the show was minimal. Mainly incidental characters.

  8. Toby => Well, strangely enough, Len Smith said that : "I remember at one point because we were having so much trouble making Rebecca appealing as a bear I did a design of her and Molly as foxes along the lines of the Robin Hood characters.Rebecca's design was finally solved by the great Toby Shelton."

    Rebecca isn't a "minor" character :)

  9. Alright man...great to see you finally got this going. There's so much to learn from your work.

Would be great to see a post on what goes thru your head creating these panels. The compositions are so darn good. Can barely tell you are changing shots even seeing them next to each other they flow so well.

Good times brother and thanks for sharing these!!

  12. Uh? I didn't know Gosalyn was adopted... That makes me a bit disappointed, really! Thinking of Drake as a widower or a divorced single dad kinda lent some extra depth to the character, sort of an implied back-story, you know? Great work on the model sheets, though! Thanks for sharing! Oh! And, in case you're curious, Launchpad is known as Captain Boeing in Brazil.
